Curriculum

We are delighted to announce that in 2019 Hingaia Peninsula School became an

International Baccalaureate School authorised to provide the Primary Years Programme.

In 2015 Hingaia Peninsula School became a candidate* school, meaning this school was pursuing authorization as an IB World School. These are schools that share a common philosophy— a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that Hingaia Peninsula School believes is important for our students. We are immensely grateful to the staff, students, board of trustees and community for their support in achieving our authorisation status.

The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate  and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

*Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its three academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), or the Diploma Programme (and in addition the IB Career-related Certificate). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted.

For further information about the IB and its programmes, visit http://www.ibo.org

We are looking forward to developing this programme and philosophy within the New Zealand Curriculum framework and in alignment with National Standards with our learners and will keep you updated on progress and developments.

Our Programmes of Inquiry (POI) encompasses inquiry, literacy and mathematics skills within a theme across all curriculum learning areas; Maths, English, Science, The Arts, Health and PE, Technology and Social Sciences. This gives students an authentic opportunity to utilize skills learned during guided sessions across a range of contexts.
