What is an ILE?
An innovative learning environment (ILE) is one that is capable of evolving and adapting as educational practices evolve and change – thus remaining future focused. (Ministry of Education)
In the past the term 'Modern Learning Environments' (MLE) was used. 'Innovative Learning Environments' (ILE) has greater international recognition, and is used by The Ministry of Education.
A learning environment includes the physical, social, and pedagogical context in which learning occurs. An ILE supports strengths-based teaching and learning. It offers students and teachers flexibility, agency, ubiquity, and connectedness.
Working in an ILE where teaching and learning is collaborative, reflections and inquiries are shared, and communities engaged leads to a more robust, continuously improving community of practice.
The Innovative Learning Environments custom created for Hingaia Peninsula School are designed to provide a range of spaces to provide a flexible approach to learning. Our studio environments are purpose built to enhance learning and are created with optimum light, ventilation and acoustics.
Our studio design enables students to learn in a variety of different ways to meet the needs of the modern learner. The studios are multi functional spaces with nooks that cater for a variety of different learning styles. Children will have the opportunity to work creatively, both individually and in groups, and to personalise their learning space to suit their needs.
Through careful use of this innovative environment, we are able to cater for a range of learning, social and physical needs. We provide a range of quiet, focused, collaborative, creative and active learning spaces to meet the needs of today's students and their learning. This is complemented by our outstanding teachers who provide authentic and engaging learning and nurturing relationships.
